One of the controversies surrounding the dubbing the S series, and the reason why it will be either severly hacked or not dubbed at all is the "couple" of Haruka and Michiru. Now, I will not write why I think that Haruka and Michiru are "lovers" or not (which will probably be a topic for another article), but rather, I will write on why I think that it will not make too much of a difference in the dubbing of the S series.
When I read about fans' rants about Sailor Moon, DiC, and how DiC will "butcher" the S series, I wonder how many of these fans actually have seen even the summeries of the S series, or rather just heard from purists whose entire goal is to stop the dubbing of the S series from being dubbed(again, another article for a later time). Furthermore, I just wonder how many of these fans have actually taken the time to think about this for just a few moments, or just actually assumed that DiC actually plans on wrecking the Haruka and Michiru relationship.
The point is that if a fan has actually watched or read the summeries, he'll probably find that the relationship, assuming that there is one, is very stoic. Never do Haruka and Michiru say to each other, "I love you," or anything to that respect. They don't kiss, nor have I seen them embrace each other like...say...Mamoru and Usagi embrace each other, or maybe like Zoicite and Kunzite. Rather, it is all in innuendo, which could be translated and interpreted one way or another. The "love" that they share is very well hidden, assuming that it exists in the first place. Anyway, getting back to my whole point, the point is that to think that DiC would not do the S series simply because of a rather hidden "relationship", provided that there is one, is one that I find rather obsurd. I also find obsurd is this unfounded fear that DiC will make Haruka male because of this relationship.
The relationship between Haruka and Michiru is really more of a non-obsticle because of its questionability of its existence. Many fans that I have seen when they first look at Haruka and Michiru say that they are close friends, and not necessarly lesbians. So, perhaps people, when they think of DiC, will jump to the conclusion that DiC will cut the relationship to ribbons, when they really will not do anything to it, because it is so well hidden. Perhaps people should take a breath and think for a moment or two.
